Laryngoscope
A laryngoscope is an endoscope that passes through the mouth and is equipped with a source of light. The conventional model had not been redesigned for 100 years, and is composed of a simple cylindrical handle, a curved metal plate, and a tiny light bulb. It is not ergonomically designed and has poor usability.
We found that the laryngoscope requires a constant exertion of 5kg during use even though it designed to be used with one hand. Therefore, it causes not only fatigue in users but also injury in patients such as loss of teeth and lip laceration due to poor operation.
We defined design requirements based on the operating method. Through rapid prototyping, we designed a laryngoscope that improves usability and requires much less power to operate. It makes use easy for paramedics and doctors with a weaker grip.
